Reading together

A gentle bedtime reading routine

A few simple ways to make a shared picture book part of a calmer evening.

Reading together can be a small, familiar part of bedtime. It does not need to happen at exactly the same time every night or follow a perfect script. A comfortable place and a book you both enjoy are enough to begin.

Keep the choice small

Offer one or two books and let your child choose. If they ask for the same book again, repetition can be part of the pleasure. You can browse our bookshelf together when you want to find a new story.

Read at your own pace

There is no need to hurry through every page. Pause when your child wants to look at a picture or ask a question. On a busy night, a shorter book can still make room for that shared moment. When the catalogue grows, the reading-time collections will help you choose.

Let the story end gently

After the last page, a simple goodnight can be enough. You might talk about a favourite picture, or simply close the book and sit together for a moment.
